Today I visited the combined brewing efforts of White Rabbit and Little Creatures. While they are no longer, strictly speaking, craft breweries, they once were and both still produce some very good beers.
Firstly I will review the White Rabbit range:
1. Dark Ale, 4.9% abv, 27 IBU, this is a lovely smooth, malt driven ale. It is fermented in open vats which gives it a subtle fruit flavour but the strength of this ale is its an easy drinking beer which should appeal to all drinkers.
2. White Ale, 4.5% abv, 15 IBU, a Belgian style wheat beer with added coriander seed, juniper berries and orange peel. This is a classic cloudy, white beer which really tastes very light and would be easy to knock back on a hot summer day.
3. Pale Ale, 4.9% abv, 29-34 IBU, this is a lovely malt driven ale that has been late hopped to add a good floral aroma. It is light and very easy drinking.
4. Red Ale, 4.6% abv, 12 IBU, this is a great beer, it has been barrel aged which gives a great sour taste to the initial palate which is followed by sweet and bitter tastes, this really is quite a complex beer, taste wise, it has a long slightly sour finish. Really something special.
5. Teddywidder, 3% abv, 4 IBU, a Berliner Weiss bier in style, the name means ‘fluffy bunny’ and taste wise this is a very light, slightly sour beer, more like a champagne in taste than a traditional beer. It can be served with flavoured syrups to soften the sourness. A beer that should appeal to people who don’t usually drink beer.
6. Chocolate Stout, 5.6% abv, a seasonal beer made for Easter. Wow!! This beer has spent time in oak and has had Pana Chocolate added. It is velvety smooth with a lovely chocolate aroma and taste. This has just become my favourite stout of all time. If you want to try it be quick, it was made as a limited edition and is going fast. A truly magnificent beer.
