This afternoon I had the pleasure of visiting Temple Brewery in Brunswick. They have a great venue for a few beers or a full on function. They offer a wonderful core range of beer as well as some interesting seasonal styles.
The beers that I sampled were:
1. Okinawa Sour, 4.0% abv, this is a fruit sour style beer made with fruit that is only grown in Okinawa and imported for the purpose of making this beer. It has a strong citrus aroma, a pale, cloudy appearance and a most unusual taste. The taste is of grapefruit and lemon and is quite tart but very refreshing.
2. Bicycle, Summer Ale, 4.2% abv, this ale has a straw colour and a spicy hop aroma. It has a great citrus taste and a lovely mild, fruity hop, bitter finish. This would be great on a hot day.
3. Powerstance, Pilsner, 5.1% abv, this beer has a subtle hint of bananas in the aroma. It is a German style Pilsner that utilises German hops. It has a smooth malt sweetness and a crisp dry finish. Very true to the style.
4. Anytime, Pale Ale, 4.7% abv, this ale has a lovely floral hop aroma and a great big bitter hop taste and finish. It has IPA characteristics but is low enough in alcohol to be sessionable.
5. Rye Hard, IPA, 6.3% abv, this ale has a great amber orange colour and a malty caramel aroma. It is very well balanced with initial malt flavours followed by a distinct hop bitterness and a long IPA finish.
6. NWO, New World Order, American Stout, 6.5% abv, this beautiful dark beer has a sweet coffee malt aroma and a smooth yet complex malty palate that is followed by a subtle hop finish.
7. Dry Hopped , Powerstance Pilsner, 5.1% abv, this cloudy, straw coloured beer is similar to the standard Powerstance Pilsner but the addition of the Mandarina Bavaria hops give it a wonderful citrus hop aroma and a great citrus bitter hop taste that has a lovely long finish.
8. Cardamom Pale Ale, 4.7% abv, this ale has a golden colour and an unusual spicy aroma. It has an interesting spicy taste ( cardamom) that is accompanied by the usual Pale Ale hop flavour with a lovely long finish.
9. Batch Brew Beer, 5.1% abv, this is a coffee ale that is amber in colour and has a strong coffee espresso aroma. It has a great coffee taste that is followed by a lovely hop bitterness. Delicious!
10. Chai Rye Autumn IPA, 6.3% abv, this amber coloured ale has a great sweet, spicy chai aroma and an interesting chai spice taste that is followed by a lovely hop bitter finish. Unusual but very drinkable.
I really enjoyed the beers on offer at Temple Brewery, their core range is lovely and their seasonal beers show great imagination and have produced some wonderfully different beers that you won’t find anywhere else.
