Sunshine Coast Brewery

On August 8th I visited the Sunshine Coast Brewery in Kunda Park, Queensland. It is in an industrial area on Endeavour Drive. They have a great range of both core and seasonal beers that are definitely worth checking out.

The beers that I sampled were:

Pilsner, 4.5% abv, this is a Czech style Lager with a golden straw colour and a subtle floral aroma. It has a sweet, smooth malt flavour and a lovely crisp finish. It is very true to the style.

Summer Ale, 3.5% abv, this is a golden coloured Ale with a lovely sweet fruit aroma. It has a very well balanced taste of sweet malt followed by a mild fruit hop bitterness on the finish. Delicious and very sessionable.

Best Bitter, 4.6% abv, this is an English style Bitter that is amber in colour and has a malty aroma. It has a wonderful, complex malt palate with hints of caramel and biscuit. True to the style. Perfect!

Porter, 4.8% abv, this is a black coloured beer with aromas of espresso and dark chocolate. It is made with six different varieties of malt and this is evident from the lovely, rich malt flavour with strong hints of coffee and chocolate on a nice crisp finish. Very smooth and very good.

Coal Miner, 2.5% abv, this is an English Mild Ale style that is dark amber in colour with a subtle caramel aroma. It has a great malt flavour with lovely hints of caramel and chocolate. Very easy drinking.

Rye ESB, 5.8% abv, this beer has a beautiful amber red colour and a fruity aroma. It has a wonderful malt driven flavour with hints of toffee and biscuit and then a slightly spicy but gentle bitter finish. Excellent!!

Rauch Bier, 6.1%, abv, this amber coloured beer has a great smokey aroma of smoked meat and cheese. It has a wonderful, strong smoked flavour that is very true to the style and took me back to Bamburg, the home of this type of beer.

Ginger Kegs, 3.0% abv, this is a light straw coloured ginger beer with a strong ginger aroma. It has a light, sweet ginger taste and is very refreshing and very easy drinking.

Chilli Beer, 4.6% abv, this beer has a nice red colour. It has mild malt flavour that is followed by a good chilli aftertaste that lingers in the mouth but is not too strong or overwhelming.

Strawberry Sour, 4.4% abv, this beer has a wonderful hazy, pink colour and a lovely strawberry aroma. It has a great fizzy, strawberry flavour and then a gentle sour finish. Very nice indeed!

I really enjoyed all of the wonderful beers that were on offer at the Sunshine Coast Brewery and would like to thank Simon, the head brewer, who took time out to discuss them all with me. He has a great passion for producing quality beers and is doing a fantastic job of it! It is well worth visiting the brewery if you have the chance.
