Six Tanks Brew Co

On May 20th, I visited the Six Tanks brew Co in Darwin. It has only been open for the last six months and has already put through quite a number of brews. This Brewery buys in premixed beer wort and adds the water, yeast and hops to recipe and ferments the beers in one of their six tanks on site.

The beers that I sampled were:

Kolsch, 4.8% abv, this is a light straw coloured beer with a slightly yeasty aroma. It is a mild tasting, easy drinking beer with a subtle bitterness, it is very smooth and quite sessionable.

Hefeweizen, 5.2% abv, this wheat beer has a hazy golden colour and a sweet fruity aroma. It has a great taste of tropical fruit and bananas. Very drinkable.

Pilsner, 5.2% abv, this pils has a golden straw colour and a subtle citrus hop aroma. It has a nice fruity initial palate and then a smooth, gentle hop bitter finish.

Amber Ale, 5.2% abv, this amber coloured ale has a sweet citrus hop aroma. It has a taste of fruity hops over a sweet malt initial palate with a gentle bitterness on the finish.

Viking IPA, 7.5% abv, this IPA has a cloudy golden colour and a strong fruity, citrus hop aroma. It has a great complex taste of maltiness and tropical fruit and then a good citrus hop bitter finish. Very enjoyable.

While at 6 Tanks I also tried a Big Shed, F yeah, this is an American Pale Ale, 5.5% abv, it has a dark golden colour and a malty aroma. It gives a well balanced, complex taste of sweet malt with hints of caramel followed by a lovely fruity hop bitter finish.

They have a wonderful range of craft beers available at 6 Tanks, five of their own as well as twelve from other Australian and International craft brewers. Well worth visiting if you are in Darwin.
