Shambles Brewery

On Saturday the 18th of November I visited The Shambles Brewery in Hobart, Tasmania. This brewery was started in February of 2016. All of the beers are brewed on site using all Tasmanian ingredients and they only have Tasmanian products for sale at the bar.
The name of the brewery came about because the previous use of the building was as a butchers and Shambles refers to the mixed offcuts of meat.

The three directors of the brewery have been friends since childhood, with Cornel, the brewer having been a science teacher before taking up brewing.

The brewery consists of a 10000 litre brewhouse with four fermentation tanks.

The venue has a bar and beer garden at the front and the brewery and a function area in the rear.
The beers that I sampled were:

1. Baggy Green Session IPA, 4.5% abv, this has a golden straw colour and a tropical and passionfruit aroma. It has a nice sweet tropical fruit flavour on a clean, crisp finish.
2. Afternoon Delight Summer Ale, 4.3% abv, this has a straw colour and a subtle citrus fruit aroma. It has a fruity citrus flavour and then a mild bitter finish.
3. Dirty Copper Amber Ale, 4.8% abv, this has an amber colour and a subtle malt aroma. It has a malt flavour of caramel and toffee and then a mild bitterness before a crisp finish.
4. For-Rex, Golden Rye Ale, 5.4% abv, this has a dark golden colour and a subtle malt aroma. It has a sweet maltiness and a gentle bitterness on a crisp dry finish.

5. Dances With Hops American IPA, 6.4% abv, this has a dark golden colour and a citrus fruit and pine aroma. It has a sweet juicy fruit flavour on a nice resinous, lasting bitter finish. Nice!
6. Social Misfit Double IPA, 8.2% abv, this has a dark golden colour and a subtle sweet aroma. It has a sweet fruity flavour before a big lingering hop bitter finish.
7. Barry White Robust Porter, 6.3% abv, this has a black colour and a roasted coffee aroma. It has a smooth, sweet roasted malt flavour of espresso and dark chocolate on a mild bitter finish.
8. Crimea River, Russian Imperial Stout, 10.4% abv, this has a black colour with a dark head and a subtle sweet malt aroma. It has a wonderful, smooth, rich, strong flavour of raisins and maltiness. Magnificent!!

The Shambles Brewery is a great venue for a drink and they are producing some really delicious beers. This place should be on the itinerary of every craft beer lover visiting Hobart.
I would like to thank Dan and Holly for their hospitality when I visited.
