While on Phillip Island I also visited Rusty Water Brewery. They have have been around for a while but produce their beers, under contract, at Prickly Moses Brewery in the Otways. I was able to sample several of their beers, they were:
1. Pure Pilsner, 4.8% abv, this Bohemian style pils has a light golden colour and a sweet fruity aroma. It has a very mild taste and a crisp dry finish. It is very easy to drink and would go down well on a hot day.
2. Koala Pale Ale, 4.9% abv, this golden coloured ale has a sweet citrus hop aroma. It is very well balanced with a subtle hop taste and a nutty malt finish and mild bitterness. It is very easy drinking and quite sessionable.
3. Pinnacle Amber, 6.0% abv, this is a golden amber coloured ale with a nutty malt aroma. It has a wonderful complex malt palate with hints of caramel and a delicious malt finish.
4. Pyramid Brown, 4.8% abv, this ESB style beer has a burnt copper, amber brown colour and a sweet smokey malt aroma. It has a great spicy roasted malt flavour with hints of toffee and caramel on the finish. A fantastic beer!
5. Shipwreck IPA, 6.4% abv, this golden coloured ale has a sweet citrus hop aroma. The taste gives hints of tropical fruit and then evolves into a mild bitterness that is followed by a lovely lasting finish.
All of the beers that I sampled were excellent. They also sell the Prickly Moses Stout, which is also a great beer. However, in the past they have made a Chicory Stout of their own and this should be back for the winter months. I strongly recommend this Brewery.
