Yesterday I visited the Rogue Wave Brewery and Tavern. A great little tavern where all the brewing is done on site, out the back of the beer garden. The beers I sampled were:
1. Locals Only, a draught style beer, basically made to keep the locals happy. Dry tasting, easy drinking beer that should appeal to anyone used to mainstream beers.
2. Salt Pale Lager, 4.5% abv 22 IBU, a very crisp, smooth summer beer, rather bland but very drinkable.
3. Session Ale, 4.7% abv 17 IBU, a mild tasting summer ale of the Australian ale style, lightly hopped with Victorian hops and using Victorian malts. It would be quite easy to knock back a few of these.
4. Wheat beer, a mildly hopped beer with slight citrus tones. Very nice.
5. Hook, 4.8% abv 30 IBU, blood orange pale ale, citrusy orange flavours added to by the mandarin hops used. Very, very good. I enjoyed this one.
6. Moby, 5.1% abv 28 IBU, American pale ale. Starts with a fruity aroma then has a nice hoppy taste with a good bitter finish. Not overly floral, quite easy to drink.
7. Ink, 5.8% abv 22 IBU, Coffee infused stout. Slight coffee aroma with a rich malty taste. Delicious!! Definitely my favourite of the beers sampled.
