Today I visited Mornington Peninsula Brewery. What a great little brewery, it is located in the industrial area of Mornington but still draws a strong crowd and for a good reason. It has live music every Sunday, great wood fired pizzas and most importantly fantastic beers.
The beers that I tried were:
1. Lager, 4.7% abv, this is a German style lager with a lovely straw colour, it is a great clean, crisp refreshing beer that would be very easy to knock back on a hot day.
2. Pale, 4.7% abv, this is an American style pale ale that is golden yellow in colour and gives off a great fruity aroma, it has a mild smooth taste and a wonderful gentle bitter finish.
3. Brown, 5% abv, this is an English style brown Ale made with imported English Ale malts. It has a toffee aroma and a nutty toffee taste. Very smooth and very, very drinkable.
4. IPA, 6.2% abv, this beer gives off a great floral, hoppy aroma and has a wonderful sweet initial taste followed by a lovely strong bitter finish.
5. Red Ale, 5.8% abv, this one has a wonderful red colour, a subtle grapefruit aroma and a burnt malty taste followed by a caramel and hop finish.
6. Jiffy Squid, 5.1% abv, a Vermont style IPA, this beer is very true to the style and has a great passionfruit and mango aroma, a very light, smooth palate and a lovely lasting hop finish.
7. Brain Squeeze, 5.5% abv, this is a hoppy sour style of beer, it starts off with a tropical fruit, sour palate and then has a lovely dry finish. Refreshing!!
8. Hop Culture, 4.9% abv, a session IPA that fits in between a Pale Ale and a traditional IPA. It has citrus hoppy aromas but is still very approachable with a mild taste and a gentle bitter finish.
9. Sorachi, a Kolshe summer ale style of beer that uses Japanese hops. It has a delicious buttery taste, a smooth palate and a wonderful hoppy bitter finish. An unusual but most enjoyable beer.
All in all I really enjoyed this Brewery and I highly recommend their beers to anyone who appreciates good beer!
