On August 9th I visited Macleod Brewing in Maleny, Queensland. The brewer, Davy, has come from Brouhaha and has brought all of his brewing knowledge and enthusiasm with him.
The beers that I sampled were:
Lager, 5.1% abv, this is a golden coloured Lager with a subtle spicy aroma. It has a smooth initial taste of malt and then a nice crisp finish. Very true to the style.
Holdfast English Pale Ale, 5.5% abv, this Pale Ale has a golden colour and a sweet fruity aroma. It has a lovely initial taste of malt and then transitions into a fruity, citrus flavour and a good bitter finish.
Davy’ s Scotch Ale Light, 2.9% abv, this nut brown coloured Ale has a strong malt nose. It has a great complex malt flavour and is very smooth and quite sessionable.
Shiraz Saison, 6.3% abv, this is a cloudy straw coloured farmhouse ale with an aroma of sweet and sour apples. It has a fruity wheat flavour and then a slightly sour and mild bitter finish.
Double IPA, 7.4% abv, this is an amber coloured IPA with a strong, sweet citrus aroma. It has a full fruity flavour and then a generous, lingering bitterness on the finish. Very smooth and very good!
Red IPA, 7.0% abv, this is an amber red coloured ale with a sweet fruit and peppery aroma. It has a wonderful sweet malt and fruit flavour and then a good bitterness on the finish.
Taipan Pale Ale, 4.5% abv, this Pale Ale has an amber gold colour and an aroma of citrus and chilli. It is a chilli Pale Ale with a wonderful malt and citrus fruit taste and then has a great whack of chilli heat on the aftertaste that lingers. An excellent chilli beer!
I would like to thank Mandy for her hospitality and Davy for sparing the time to talk to me and show me the brewery. This Brewery is well worth checking out!
