On August 21st I visited the Green Beacon Brewing Co. that is in Newstead, Brisbane, Queensland. It has been brewing beer since 2013 and has a great selection to choose from. The beers that I sampled were:
Crossknot, 4.6% abv, this is a Kolsch style of beer that is straw coloured and has a sweet yeast aroma. It has a light, sweet flavour that is crisp, dry and refreshing. Very true to the style.
Wayfarer, 4.9% abv, this is an American Wheat beer that won a gold medal at the 2017 AIBA. It is a straw colour and has a yeasty wheat and citrus hop aroma. It has a smooth wheat/ malt flavour on a mild, crisp hop bitter finish. Very easy drinking.
3 Bolt, 4.5% abv, this is a Pale Ale that also won a gold medal at the 2017 AIBA it has a golden colour with a sweet tropical fruit aroma. It has a wonderful sweet fruity flavour with a gentle hop bitterness on the finish. A very good Australian Pale Ale.
Windjammer, 6.0% abv, this India Pale Ale also won a gold medal at the 2017 AIBA, it is a golden colour with a floral citrus aroma. It has a strong, wonderful fruity taste and then a generous and lingering hop bitterness on the finish. Very nice!
Halfmast ISA, 3.8% abv, this India Session Ale won a silver medal at the 2017 AIBA. It is a golden straw colour and has a sweet citrus hop aroma. It has a mild sweet citrus fruit flavour on a gentle hop bitter finish. Very sessionable and very drinkable.
7 Bells Passionfruit Gose, 4.2% abv, this is a straw colour with a salty, sour aroma. The taste is initially sweet, then salty and then tart sour. It is very true to the style and leaves you wanting more.
Uppercut IIPA, 8.0% abv, this is a golden colour with a sweet malt and citrus hop aroma. It has a very well balanced flavour of sweet malt and then a gentle fruitiness before a big hop bitter finish. Lovely!
Cutwater, New England Pale Ale, 5.2% abv, this is a golden straw colour with a sweet floral aroma. It has a light sweet taste and then a crisp, mild bitter finish.
Mainstay Amber Ale, 5.2% abv, this ale has an amber colour and a subtle malt aroma. It has a lovely sweet malt flavour with hints of caramel and toffee before a gentle hop bitter finish. True to the style and very easy drinking.
Extra Special Bitter, ( ESB), 5.3% abv, this is a golden colour with a subtle biscuit malt aroma. It has a great full malt palate with strong hints of biscuit and caramel. A very malt forward bitter that is most enjoyable.
Flanders Red, 8.0% abv, this Ale is barrel aged in Shiraz barrels. It has a cloudy amber colour and a strong sour grape aroma. It has a spectacular full flavour of sweetness and then a tart fruity finish. Oh yeah!!
Penny Porter, 6.1% abv, this is a dark brown coloured Porter with a sweet roasted espresso malt aroma. It has a wonderful full malty flavour with great hints of coffee and sweetness. Very good indeed!
The Green Beacon Brewing Co. is producing some really wonderful beers, they have a great selection that should cater for all beer tastes. I enjoyed them all and would like to thank Charlie and Nathan for their hospitality and time while running me through them.
