On the 15th June I visited the Green Ant Cantina in Cairns. Their beers are brewed by Red Dragon Brewery, but to their individual recipes. They have a funky little venue that serves Mexican food as well as drinks.
The beers that I sampled were :
Pale Ale, 4.9% abv, this is a straw coloured ale with a sweet citrus aroma. It has an initial taste of citrus and then transitions into a nice hop bitter finish.
Pilsner, 4.8% abv, this is a straw coloured beer with a mild, sweet malt aroma. It has a wonderful initial palate of bananas on a malty backbone with a great crisp finish.
Lager, 4.9% abv, this is a golden coloured beer with subtle floral and grass aromas. It has a citrus- like flavour and a mild hop bitterness on a crisp dry finish.
Honey Wheat Beer, 4.8% abv, this is an amber coloured beer with subtle sweet malt aroma. It has flavours of honey and malt and then floral hops on a gentle bitterness. Very nice!
Strong Brown Ale, 7.3% abv, this dark brown ale has a sweet malt aroma. It has a citrus hop flavour with a maltiness in the background that hints at caramel and coffee. Delicious!
Imperial Stout, 8.5% abv, this is very dark with a brown creamy head and has a subtle aroma of roasted coffee. It is very smooth to drink with a complex malt flavour with hints of coffee and liquorice. Magnificent!!
Ginger Beer, 4.5% abv, this is a clear ginger beer with a pleasant ginger aroma. It is made with locally sourced ginger and has a lovely taste that is sweet and warming but very refreshing.
I enjoyed the beer available at the Green Ant Cantina, they were all very good. It is a top little venue that is definitely worth visiting.
