On April 30th I visited Brew Boys Brewery in Croydon Park. The brewery has a great area for drinking, live music and even a small beer garden. They have been around since 2008 and have established a great core range of beers.
The beers that I sampled were:
Maiden Ale, 4.9% abv, this amber ale was the first style released by the Brew Boys. It has a golden colour and a sweet citrus aroma. It has a wonderful full malt flavour balanced by a strong hop bitter finish that lingers.
Jog-On Bitter, 3.5% abv, this is an English style bitter with an amber colour and lovely malty aroma. It has a complex taste that starts with malt and then moves into a full palate of mild hop bitterness.
Schweinhund, 5.2% abv, this Bavarian hefeweizen style beer has a hazy straw colour and a fruity yeast aroma. It has flavours of tropical fruit and bananas with a spicy and slightly tart finish. Very refreshing.
King Brown, 4.2% abv, this American style brown ale has a dark amber colour and a hoppy aroma. It has a wonderful complex malt palate and smoothness before a mild bitterness on the finish.
GTS, 5.3% abv, this is a light straw coloured Australian style pale ale with a good hoppy aroma. It is very well balanced with a great malt initial palate and then a gentle bitter finish. Very approachable.
Hoppasaisawatamas, 7.5% abv, this is a Saison/ IPA with a golden colour and a citrus hop aroma. This beer is all about the hops. It is fruity tasting with a lovely full palate smoothness, but the Saison yeast allow it to be quite crisp on the finish.
Hard Pressed Ginger, 3.5% abv, this is a straw coloured alcoholic ginger beer with a huge ginger aroma. It has a wonderful ginger taste that hangs around well.
Hard Pressed Lemon, 8% abv, this looks like your average pub squash with a strong lemon aroma. It has a strong lemon tart flavour, but watch out, it is very easy drinking and at 8% very dangerous!
Ace of Spades, 5.9% abv, this is a black coloured beer has malty aromas of dark chocolate and coffee. It has a great complex malt driven taste with hints of espresso and chocolate. It is smooth, rich and delicious.
The Brew Boys Brewery is producing some wonderful beers and have a great venue. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
