On 22 August I visited Black Hops Brewery on the Gold Coast, Queensland.
The beers that I sampled were:
1. Beach House, 4.8% abv, this is an Australian Saison style beer that is a light straw colour with a sweet citrus aroma. It has a light sweet citrus taste and then a good spicy hop bitter finish.
2. Lay Day Lager, 4.4% abv, this is a tropical Lager with a light straw colour and a spicy tropical fruit aroma. It has a smooth sweetness of malt on a good crisp dry finish.
3. Pink Mist, 4.7% abv, this is a light hazy pink coloured raspberry Saison with a sweet raspberry aroma. It has a tart raspberry taste with a mild bitterness, on a dry crisp finish.
4. Pale Ale, 4.8% abv, this Ale has a golden colour and a subtle tropical fruit aroma. It has a smooth, sweet, gentle fruit taste with a mild bitterness on a dry finish.
5. Hornet, 6.0% abv, this is an IPA with a golden colour and a strong tropical fruit aroma. It has a sweet fruity initial palate and then transitions into a good, dry hop bitter finish.
6. Beetlejuice, 6.0% abv, this is a black New England IPA style with a cloudy dark brown colour and an aroma of passionfruit. It has a wonderful, strong tropical fruit and passionfruit sweetness on a solid hop bitter finish. Nice!
7. Eggnog Stout, 5.8% abv, this is an infused Stout that has a black colour with an aroma of vanilla and roasted malt. It has a nice malty palate with good tastes of nutmeg, vanilla and cinnamon on a mild bitter finish.
8. Mojito IPA, 6.6% abv, this is a collaborative brew with Newstead Brewing that has a golden colour and a sweet mandarin aroma. It has a lovely, light, refreshing citrus and mint flavour of a Mojito followed by a good lingering hop bitter finish.
The Black Hops Brewery is producing a great range of beers and is well worth visiting.
