On 27 August I visited Balter Brewing Company in Currumbin, Queensland. They have a great venue in an industrial area with plenty of room to have a good time. The beers that I sampled were:
1.Pilsner, 4.9% abv, this is a light straw coloured beer with a subtle yeasty aroma. It has a nice malty palate and a gentle hop bitterness on a crisp dry finish.
2. Captain Sensible, 3.6% abv, this is an amber coloured beer with a subtle malt aroma. It has smooth, sweet malt initial taste and then a crisp dry finish.
3. XPA Pale Ale, 5.0% abv, this is a light straw coloured ale with a sweet citrus aroma. It has a great fruity initial taste and then a generous hop bitter finish. Very nice.
4. IPA, 6.8% abv, this is a golden straw coloured ale with a subtle sweet floral and citrus aroma. It has a sweet malt initial palate and then a big fruity, lingering bitterness on the finish.
5. Ruby, 5.6% abv, this is a dark amber coloured beer with a malty caramel aroma. It has a wonderful sweet malt flavour with hints of toffee and caramel on a mild bitterness before a crisp dry finish.
6. Altbrown, 5.2% abv, this is an amber coloured beer with a smooth mouth feel and a nice malty flavour and then a gentle bitter, clean finish.
7. Black Metal Disco, 5.4% abv, this beer has a black colour and a creamy head with a subtle roasted malt aroma. It gives a smooth mouth feel and a nice roasted malt flavour with gentle hints of coffee.
The beers that I sampled at Balter Brewing Company were all good. However, I felt that they were all very safe in their composition and something a little more confronting would have been nice.
