On Thursday 31st August, I visited Ballistic Beer in Salisbury, Queensland. They started brewing in 2016 and have already established themselves as great craft brewery, picking up three gold medals at the 2017 AIBA.
The beers that I sampled were:
1. Pilot Light, 3.5% abv, this is a traditional table beer with a golden colour and a sweet fruit aroma. It has a mild malt flavour and a dry finish. Sessionable.
2. Dirty Word, 5.0% abv, this is a craft lager that is straw coloured and has a subtle sweet citrus aroma. It has a nice mild malt palate and then has a gentle bitterness on a crisp dry finish. A very good lager.
3. Fortnight, 6.1% abv, this is a single hop IPA that has a golden straw colour and a sweet floral and citrus hop aroma. It has a great sweet fruity initial taste and then transitions into a strong, resinous, lingering hop bitter finish.
4. Australian Psycho, 6.5% abv, this is an IPA with a golden colour and a strong fruit aroma. It has an immediate fruity flavour with hints of mango and apricot on a mild background of malt before a solid hop bitterness that lingers. Very nice.
5. Dragon Lady, 5.0% abv, this is an apple cider with a golden straw colour and subtle apple aroma. It has a strong, semi- sweet apple taste. Great!
6. B.F.S. (Big Friendly Stout), 5.0% abv, this is a black oatmeal stout with an aroma of roasted coffee. It has a nice mouth feel and a wonderful malt flavour with hints of chocolate, smoke and a coffee bitter finish. Very good!
7. Black IPA, 6.8% abv, this is a black ale with a strong sweet tropical fruit aroma. It has a lovely sweet initial flavour and then a great taste of tropical fruit on a good bitterness before a dry finish. Quite delicious!
8. The Grandfather, 7.0% abv, this is an Oaked Ale with an amber colour and a subtle sweet, buttery malt aroma. It has smooth flavour of malt with great hints of caramel, toffee and coconut. Wow! A great beer!
I really enjoyed all the beers that I tried at Ballistic Beer Co. and would like to thank Evan Lloyd for his hospitality. This is a brewery that is definitely worth visiting.
