I feel obliged to review the O’Brien range of gluten free beers, even though I am not a coeliac, because they gave me one of each of their range to try. So one a day seems fair.
Today’s sample is the Brown Ale, 4.5% abv, the first words that come to mind after tasting it are, unfortunately, insipid and bland. This is usually my favourite style of beer, but this example does not impress at all. All I can really say is thank goodness I don’t have to drink only gluten free beers.

Time for the gluten free beer of the day. Today I am going to try the O’Brien Pale Ale, 4.5% abv, it pours a yellow straw colour but with no head and does not have the aroma usually associated with a pale, it has a clean, dry taste but lacks the character and depth of this style of beer, it is drinkable but rather bland compared to regular pale ales. As I have said before, I am glad I am not a coeliac.

And now for the gluten free beer of the day. Today I am trying the O’ BRIEN Light Lager, 2.7% abv, this is a very light tasting beer and is a lot easier to drink than some of the other O’BRIEN range. Having said that, it is quite bland and leaves very little taste in the mouth. However, if I was a coeliac and wanted to knock back a few on a hot day then this would be the beer that I would look for.

Okay, time for the gluten free beer of the day. Today I am trying the O’Brien Pilsner,5.2% abv, this is a European inspired pilsner and although it does not taste exactly like a Czech or a German style of the beer, it is a rather crisp beer that is quite easy to drink and should go to the top of any coeliacs shopping list.
