I visited Forrest Brewing Company on the Apollo Bay Road in Forrest.
It is a 600 litre Brewery that offers a year round core range of beers as well as seasonal releases.
The beers I sampled were:
1. Silvertop, 4.1% abv, this straw yellow coloured beer gives off a good hop aroma and a light, slightly malty taste. A great summer ale!
2. Pale Ale, 4.8% abv, the Cascade hops used in this brew provide a strong fruity aroma, this is followed by a caramel malt taste that has a little bitterness but is very refreshing.
3. Irish Red, 3.6% abv, this copper coloured beer has a great spicy, nutty taste and a lovely mild bitter finish.
4. Stout, 4.5% abv, this oatmeal stout has a wonderful complex malty flavour that is silky smooth on the palate and leaves with a slight bitter finish.
5. Pobblebonk, 7% abv, this seasonal beer is made in the Saison style, using local honey and orange zest. It tastes spicy and sweet and is a very easy drinking beer. Yum!!
6. Untamed Turkey, 7.5% abv, this is a double IPA. It displays a great caramel, toffee malt flavour and has a wonderful long hoppy finish. Very, very well done.
7. Cherry Whit, a Belgian style witbier containing locally grown cherries. It gives off a fruity nose and flavour with a mild sweetness and a lovely slightly sour finish.
8. Sista Ginger, this is a spiced ginger beer, however, it has only a very subtle ginger taste and more of the spices are noticeable. It is quite unusual but also very enjoyable, it is light in flavour and easy to drink. It is also gluten free.
Coming soon to the range will be the Block Splitter, 9% abv, an Imperial Stout one of their popular seasonal beers.
