I also visited the Sweetwater Brewing Company in Tawonga South near Mount Beauty. They are a small brewpub that aims to produce beers that are true to style and has a wonderful venue that has live music on the weekends.
The beers that I sampled were:
1. Summer Ale, 4.5% abv, this is a light straw coloured ale with a subtle sweet hop aroma. It has a spicy, fruity hop taste and a gentle bitterness on the finish. Quite refreshing.
2. Weissbier, 5.0% abv, this beer has a hazy straw colour and a yeasty wheat aroma. It tastes of bananas and mild spice. A very good Hefeweizen!
3. Pale Ale, 5.0% abv, this golden coloured Ale has a wonderful sweet citrus aroma. It has a well balanced initial malt flavour followed by a lovely citrus hop bitter finish.
4. Golden Bitter, 5.2% abv, this is an English style ESB that is golden coloured and has a wonderful malty aroma. It has a great well balanced flavour that has a strong initial palate of malt with a mild hop bitter finish. An excellent example of the style.
5. Porter, 4.8% abv, this is a dark amber coloured ale with a malty aroma. It gives a full palate of malt with hints of coffee and chocolate. Very drinkable!
Thanks go to Peter, the owner and brewer, for coming in to tell me about his brewery and his passion for producing beers that are true to style. The beers that I sampled were the ones that were available at the moment on tap but he also produces quite a few other varieties.
