On July 13th I visited the Townsville Brewery. They have eight beers in their range so I sampled them all.
Townsville Bitter Light, 3.0% abv, this is a straw coloured lager that is aimed at the mainstream, mid strength drinker. It has a subtle sweet aroma and a gentle malt flavour with a crisp, slightly bitter finish.
Townsville Bitter Premium, 5.0% abv, this is the full strength version of the lager. It has a little more malty flavour than the light. It is a good crisp lager.
Bandito Loco, 5.0% abv, this is a Mexican style lager that is straw coloured and has a subtle sweet citrus and tropical fruit aroma. It has a lovely flavour of citrus and then a mild bitterness on a crisp dry finish. Very easy drinking.
Belgian Blonde, 4.9% abv, this is a Wit bier that is a light cloudy, straw colour with a fruity banana aroma. It is brewed with Pilsner malts, ginger and coriander and has light, fruity taste. Very refreshing.
Digger’s Golden Ale, 4.8% abv, this is a light golden coloured ale with a subtle tropical fruit aroma. It is made with Amarillo hops and has a tropical fruit flavour and a mild hop bitterness that lingers.
Ned’s Red Irish Ale, 4.4% abv, this is an amber coloured ale with a subtle malt aroma. It has a creamy, smooth mouthfeel and a wonderful complex malt taste with hints of toffee and nuts. Very nice indeed.
Flanagan’s Dry Irish Stout, 4.4% abv, this is a black coloured stout with a dark brown, creamy head, it has malty aromas of coffee and dark chocolate. It has a wonderful smooth mouthfeel and a flavour of espresso and chocolate on a good bitterness.
Tropical Pale Ale, 4.9% abv, this is a seasonal beer that is brewed with all Australian malt and hops. It is golden in colour and has a strong, sweet tropical fruit aroma. The taste is delicious with a complex fruity palate on a generous, lasting hop bitter finish.
I enjoyed all of the beers on offer at the Townsville Brewery and would recommend them if you are in the area.
