Moffat Beach Brewing Co

On August 10th I visited the Moffat Beach Brewing Co. on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. They are a small brewpub- cafe- restaurant, that have been brewing their own beer for the last two years. They have a fantastic location overlooking Moffat Beach. Although the brewery is quite small it should not be overlooked as they recently picked up a gold and two silvers for their beers at the Australian Craft Beer Awards for 2017. The gold award was for their Iggy Hop IIPA, which I was not able to try due to it running out because of the increased demand since winning the award. Don’t worry though there is more being brewed at present.

The beers that I sampled were:

Moff’s Summer Ale, 4.5% abv, this is a golden coloured Ale with a lovely sweet, citrus fruit aroma. It has great flavours of tropical fruit and then a nice hop bitterness on the finish. It won a silver medal at the awards.

Josh Porter, 5.3% abv, this is a pale ale that is named in tribute to a soldier friend who died some time ago. It has an amber colour and a subtle sweet floral aroma. The taste is well balanced with a sweet initial palate and then citrus flavours and a mild bitter finish. It also picked up a silver medal.

Hipster Doofus, 4.5% abv, this is an ESB that uses caramelised figs in the recipe. It has a dark brown colour and a strong malt aroma of roasted coffee. It has a wonderful malty palate of espresso, caramel and dark chocolate, and then a gentle bitterness on the finish.

Breakfast Beer, 6.0% abv, this is an espresso Stout made fresh local coffee. It is black in colour and has a strong espresso aroma. It has a beautiful taste of malt and coffee that is smooth and rich and very enjoyable.

Fu-Manchu, 6.5% abv, this is an Amber IPA with a dark amber colour and a strong aroma of sweet tropical fruit. It is nicely balanced with a rich malt initial taste and then a fruitiness before a lingering hop bitter finish. Very, very good!

I enjoyed all of the beers that I sampled at Moffat Beach Brewing and can see why they won the awards, their beers are all worth trying. I would like to thank Matt, the owner/brewer for his hospitality. He is doing a great job!!
