On August 15th I visited 4 Brothers Brewery in Toowoomba, Queensland. This is a great little Brewery that has been operating since April this year. Adrian is the man in charge of brewing and I must thank him for opening up the brewery for me and showing me around. The beers that I sampled were:
Lazy Brother, 5.0% abv, this is a Pale Ale that is golden in colour and has a subtle citrus aroma. It has a very well balanced flavour that starts off with sweet malt and then has a nice fruitiness followed by a mild hop bitter finish. Very easy drinking.
Bee Hive, 5.2% abv, this is a honey wheat beer that has a dark golden colour and a sweet malt aroma. It has a wonderful smooth sweet malt/wheat flavour and a lovely honey taste on the finish.
Arrogant Brother, 4.9% abv, this is a smoked beer of the Rauch bier style. It is a dark amber colour and has an aroma of smoked cheese. The flavour is of smoked meat and cheese but still mild enough to be very drinkable.
Evil Brother, 6.0% abv, this is a Coffee Porter that is dark brown in colour and has a wonderful coffee aroma. This beer is all about the coffee, it has a great strong taste of espresso that is rich and smooth. If you like good coffee then this is the beer for you! Fantastic!!
As well as the beers reviewed 4 Brothers also make a Pumpkin Ale, a Mango IPA and an American Porter. They also have a very special beer being brewed for Toowoomba’s Carnival of Flowers, in September. This beer has been brewed in collaboration with Four Hearts Brewery in Ipswich, Queensland. It sounds great, but I have been sworn to secrecy so I can’t give any more details. I would recommend trying it if you are in the area at the time.
The 4 Brothers Brewery is producing some really enjoyable beers for such a young Brewery and really deserves the support of the area. I wish them all the best for their future in the craft brewing industry. Toowoomba definitely needs a good craft brewery!
