On August 16th I visited Granite Belt Brewery in Stanthorpe, Queensland. This small brewery has a good range of beers on offer. The beers that I sampled were:
Storm King Kolsch, this is a light straw coloured beer with a very subtle floral aroma. It has a sweet, mild taste that is refreshing on a crisp dry finish. True to the style.
Granite Pilsner, this is a golden straw coloured beer that is very smooth and refreshing on a crisp yet mild hop bitter finish.
India Pale Ale, this is a golden coloured Ale with an aroma of sweet tropical fruit. It has a sweet initial taste then a strong fruity hop bitter finish that lingers.
Stanthorpe Apple Ale, this is a hazy straw coloured beer with a subtle apple aroma. It has a malty initial taste and then a tart cider finish.
Hatters Wheat beer, this is a cloudy straw coloured beer with a subtle floral aroma. It is quite refreshing with a mild wheat flavour and then a gentle hop bitter finish. Nice.
Irish Red Ale, (IRA), this is an amber coloured Ale that has a sweet fruity aroma. It has a lovely malt palate of caramel and then a gentle hop bitterness. Very good!
Poziers Porter, this is a dark brown coloured beer with a strong aroma of espresso. It has a nice malty flavour with hints of chocolate and coffee and a gentle bitter finish. Lovely!
Rye Beer, this is a seasonal beer that is a dark copper colour with a subtle malt aroma. It has an initial sweetness of malt and then transitions into a tart, fruity hop bitterness on the finish.
The beers on offer at Granite Belt Brewery were quite good. The stand- outs for me were the Irish Red Ale and the Poziers Porter that were both lovely.
